10 pounds of marijuana and nearly $4,000 found after traffic stop

Following a traffic stop Monday afternoon, Marion County sheriff’s deputies reported finding 10 pounds of marijuana and $3,980 in cash along with pills and cocaine in a white Chevy sedan. The driver, Jeffrey Clarke, 30, was arrested on several drug charges, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputy Trevor Fitzgerald pulled the car over in the 300 block of Oak Track Course around 3 p.m. Monday. He smelled marijuana and saw a plastic bag hanging out of Clarke’s pocket.

Fitzgerald handcuffed Clarke and deputies searched the car. They found several gallon-size bags of pot and a duffel containing more bags of the illegal drug, pills and cocaine, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Clarke had the money in his pocket. Clarke told deputies the marijuana was his and that he had just picked it up, according to the Sheriff’s Office.Clarke was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
