A 53-year-old male was arrested Saturday night after police discovered $593,521 a quantity of marijuana and a weapon in an apartment. The man and a 49-year-old Jamaican national were arrested after officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at 10:00 p.m. on December 10 at an apartment complex in the Midshipman Road area. According to police, during their search police officers discovered the large quantity of cash (U.S. currency/ mixed denominations) along with a .44 Desert Eagle pistol with a magazine clip, which contained six live rounds of .44 ammunition.
Officers also found a sum of marijuana weighing in at seven pounds with an estimated street value of $7,000. According to police, the 53-year-old Freeport resident who was arrested is the owner of the apartment complex and held the keys for the apartment that the search warrant was issued for. The man was present at the time officers conducted their search and discovered the items. The 49-year-old Jamaican native resided in another apartment within the complex. Police say the man was observed behaving suspiciously in the courtyard of the apartment complex.
Officers examined the man’s documents, which included a valid Jamaican passport after which it was discovered that the man had overstayed his time in the country. Police took both men and the findings in the apartment into custody. Investigations into the incidents are underway by police.
