6,000+ pounds of marijuana seized in Texas

Thousands of pounds of marijuana were confiscated by U.S. Border Patrol agents in multiple seizures over two days.

On Thursday night near La Joya, agents working near the Rio Grande saw several people loading bundles into a minivan near the river’s edge. The smugglers hopped into a motorized boat and crossed the river to Mexico. Agents found nearly 680 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $540,000 in the van.

In another seizure that day in Havana, agents found a bag of homemade spikes and a bundle of marijuana after following a trail of footprints. Two people were apprehended and nearly 350 pounds of marijuana worth more than $275,000 was seized.

Additional seizures in the agency’s Rio Grande Valley sector pushed the total marijuana seized to more than 6,000 pounds.
