An alleged cannabis grower is to have his case sent to the crown court. Stephen Greig, 34, is accused of growing 23 cannabis plants with an alleged value of more than £2,000. He is also accused of bypassing an electricity meter as part of the growing operation. Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court decided to send the case to Teesside Crown Court as they felt the charge fell outside of its powers.
Greig has not yet entered any pleas to production of cannabis and abstracting electricity, both on July 28. He will return to the magistrates’ court in February when the case will formally be committed to the crown court. Greig, of Jackson Street, Hartlepool, was granted unconditional bail.
