Americans take more relaxed approach to marijuana

The two US states that allow legal recreational use of marijuana may soon be joined by more. So far, voters in the states of Colorado and Washington have approved marijuana for recreational use, however some legislators are suggesting twelve more states are expected to legalize it in some form over the next few years. With high support at the national level for more permissive policies regarding the use of marijuana, there are now twenty other states that allow use of the drug to alleviate medical problems.

The United States seems to be shifting its official stance on marijuana, with experts predicting that US prohibition for marijuana will be a thing of the past before the end of 2020. Economic projections have shown there could be a growing and profitable legal marijuana industry with figures reaching US$10 billion by 2018. The US federal government continues to ban the plant, even for medical use, classifying it alongside drugs like heroin and LSD.
