Arizona Cannabis Society raided

Medical-marijuana caregiver collective, Arizona Cannabis Society, was raided last week by Phoenix Police marking the start of the battle against medical cannabis in Arizona. Police raided three locations of the Arizona Cannabis Society, after an undercover investigation reports they were operating outside of the guidelines of state law. Phoenix Police Sergeant Trent Crump claims the operation was in possession of over 900 medical marijuana plants alone, and out of the several arrested from each location, not a single person was a qualified caregiver. Crump says the Arizona Cannabis Society was operating well outside the law as outlined in the 2010 Arizona Medical Marijuana Act. Medical marijuana card holders and licensed caregivers can grow up to 12 plants per patient, and are not allowed to be for profit, but Crump claims the Cannabis Society was in possession of way to many plants, gaining profit and no licensed caregivers were at these locations. Sergeant Crump added that there were no plans on jailing any of those detained, including founder Bill Hayes, and everyone was released. There is no word yet on whether police will be pursuing any charges, but until dispensaries open across the state, there are now less locations for patients to get medication.
Arizona patients are now hoping this isn’t a sign of the states continued attempt to keep medical marijuana from those who need it. Since Arizona state Governor Jan Brewer filed a lawsuit which blocked the opening of medical marijuana dispensaries in 2010, patients have had to seek out other means to get their medication. Medical marijuana patients were then faced with the possibility of turning to illegal means for their much needed marijuana, but supporters and medical cannabis businessmen found a way around that, marijuana compassion clubs. The medical cannabis compassion clubs worked similar to dispensaries, medically approved card holders could pick up medical marijuana from these office type locations. But the selection was very limited, and sometimes they were out all together. They were also refereed to as an official responsible pot dealing businessman. But the governor and her cabinet of anti-marijuana thugs wanted to send the message that they “did not” want medical marijuana in their state, and openly against the wishes of voters. Medical cannabis compassion clubs were under attack by Attorney General Tom Horne who filed suits against the “marijuana club” idea. Now we are starting to see the ridiculous battles over medical marijuana began in Phoenix.
