Authorities arrest 2 in Lufkin after FedEx pot delivery

The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office arrested a couple on Wednesday after an operation involving a deputy posing as a FedEx employee.  Torrence Kenyonne Haley, 33, of Lufkin, and Jessica Simone Jamison, 24, of Diboll, are each charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. The sheriff’s office is also looking into filing child endangerment charges and federal trafficking charges may also be pending.  Detective Tom Matthews, Angelina County Narcotics, released a report saying that the Nacogdoches Sheriff’s Office contacted Angelina County authorities on Wednesday about a package, at the Nacogdoches FedEx branch, which contained marijuana. The package had been flagged at the business and FedEx management contacted authorities.  “They were working folks, trying to make it. They just chose to supplement the income the wrong way,” said Matthews.

Matthews went undercover as a FedEx delivery person and delivered the package to the residence, located in the 100 block of Stone Drive in Lufkin. The package came from Oakland  and was delivered around 11 a.m. Jamison answered the door and responded to the name on the package. The package was addressed to a Mr. Jim Crow. Matthews was then detained her for possession of marijuana.  Jamison told Matthews that her boyfriend told her, “a package was coming today to go ahead and sign for it,” according to the report.  Deputies executed a search warrant of the home and discovered 37 grams of pscilocybin, commonly referred to as mushrooms, on the night stand next to the bed, as well as a small amount of marijuana, according to the report.  Deputies also discovered several other boxes that were shipped through FedEx, which had marijuana residue, according to the report.

Jamison had two children ages 3 and 6, at the residence, who could easily reach the drugs on the nightstand, said authorities.  “It feels good to take that out of the house, and maybe these children, when they grow up can see something different and not grow up to be in that same environment and repeat the same behaviors,” said Matthews.  Deputies contacted Child Protective Services, who turned the children over to the custody of a family member.  Haley later arrived at the residence and was placed under arrest.  This came as a shock for one neighbor, Rick Pierce, who lives across the street.  “He’s an excellent guy; he offers to do things for me. Matter of fact, the other day, he noticed that my tire was on my daughter’s car, was a spare, and said you know, we’re having a sale”.  Both stayed in the Angelina County Jail overnight. They posted $7,500 bonds this afternoon.  Lt. Pete Cooper explained that FedEx has a division in the business which checks packages without opening them for illegal materials.
