Canadians accused of smuggling marijuana into US

Federal prosecutors say five Canadians face felony charges, accused of running a multimillion-dollar operation smuggling marijuana into the United States.

Authorities say the four men arrested Tuesday in Quebec and a fifth arrested in June in Florida are accused of conspiring to possess and distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana as well as money laundering.

Charged are 45-year-old Jacques Perreault, 67-year-old Yvan Chandler, 63-year-old Denis Vachon and 63-year-old Nick Varacalli.

They were arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and are expected to face extradition.

Already in U.S. custody following his Florida arrest in the case is Michel Cote.
