Cannabis grower gets jail sentence

A MAN who grew cannabis plants in his home has been jailed for nine months.  Paul Whitelam, 23, of Highbrook, Corby, appeared at Northampton Crown Court yesterday.  He admitted producing a controlled Class B drug and being in possession of cannabis when police visited his home for an unrelated matter in May.

The court heard Whitelam had grown about 40 cannabis plants as a result of having a “severe habit”, which he did not make financial gains from, but did allow friends to take some of the drugs.  Andel Singh, mitigating, said Whitelam, had “changed his life around” since becoming a dad.
