A CHINESE takeaway offered customers a lot more than was on the menu, a court has heard. NG Wenchin used to sell as many as 50 bags of cannabis per day from behind the counter at China Garden on Church Road, St George. The 38-year-old admitted three drug offences at Bristol Magistrates’ Court – one of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, one of supplying cannabis and one of possessing cocaine for personal use.
Prosecuting, Jeremy Oliver said on July 11 police saw a customer walk into the takeaway and immediately walk back out again. He was found to have 0.88g of cannabis on him. They raided the property and found about 50 bags of cannabis, weighing a total of 39.35g, as well as white powder which turned out to be 6.32g of cocaine. Wenchin was arrested and said he had been selling the cannabis at £10 per bag for the previous three months to pay for his own drug habit.
The 38-year-old told officers he kept the cocaine behind the counter as well so that he could keep an eye on it. He said his parents, who also lived at the property, did not know anything about what he was doing. The estimated benefit from the drug dealing was £45,000 over the last three months, Mr Oliver said. District Judge David Parsons sent the case to the crown court for sentence, on November 2.
