CES: OnLive Comes to VIZIO HDTVs

The biggest name in cloud gaming, OnLive, is partnering with the largest HDTV manufacturer in the United States, Vizio, to integrate instantaneous access to AAA games through the company’s web-enabled HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and new Android-powered smartphone and tablet, the VIA Tablet and Phone.

Though the specifics of the partnership were not revealed, the streaming gaming service will be made available through Vizio’s new VIA Plus platform, which is powered by Google’s Android OS and grants users access to wide variety of web apps, making a small cloud-based app like OnLive a prime use case.

Vizio products featuring OnLive’s streaming gaming service will be on-display at CES in early demo form, though more details of how the service will be implemented, like how the system’s MicroConsole controller will work with Vizio devices, should be revealed at the show.

The service will support full 1080p resolutions, 3D support, and full 5.1 surround sound support via a free update to all OnLive users later this year.
