A Coquille man went to jail Sunday night after he allegedly tossed a bag of marijuana out of his pickup truck window moments after a Coos County sheriff’s deputy began tailing him.
The suspect, 40-year-old Richard Byrd, is charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, marijuana possession, tampering with evidence and offensive littering.
Sheriff’s officials said a deputy on patrol east of Coquille saw Byrd’s Ford pickup truck cross over a road’s center line. As the deputy began following the vehicle, he saw the truck’s driver throw a “large” bag of marijuana from the driver’s side window, officials said.
The deputy transported Byrd to the Coos County Jail.
