Correctional officers say a father tried to smuggle drugs into the Pendleton Correctional Facility—but security personnel stopped the plan.
Officials said Frank M. Yarbrough, 61, Indianapolis attempted to bring marijuana into the facility. The drugs were for his son, Ronald Nelson, who is serving a prison term for dealing drugs. He’s due to get out in January 2033.
Correctional officers found the drugs while conducting a search at the visitor processing area. Yarbrough also had tobacco, which offenders are prohibited from possessing.
Preliminary charges against Yarbrough include trafficking with an inmate of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, trafficking with an inmate of tobacco and possession of a controlled substance.
The case has been referred to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.
Correctional officers placed Nelson on segregation status following the incident.
