Fort Myers man accused of receiving marijuana deliveries

A Fort Myers man is accused of trafficking marijuana through parcel delivery services.

Sherlon Lee Hyde, 53, of the 500 block of Pierre Circle, was arrested Wednesday by Lee deputies at his home and is facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy, and driving with a suspended license.

According to arrest reports, deputies received information from New Jersey State Police that packages containing narcotics were shipped to Lehigh Acres. Deputies located the packages in a Fort Myers sort facility. One package, holding seven pounds of marijuana, was opened by parcel delivery security. Deputies received a search warrant on the second package, which allowed for controlled delivery.

The parcel was delivered to a residence near Hyde’s home where deputies say he staged a vehicle in the driveway to appear as if he were working on it while waiting for the package. After Hyde took the box he drove the vehicle to his home. During the investigation it was discovered that Hyde’s license was suspended.

Hyde exited his home after awhile, wearing different clothes and he was suspiciously looking up and down the block when deputies confronted him. The empty parcel box was found discarded on the side of the home with burned labels. The packaging inside had a strong odor of marijuana and was identical to that of the box opened by parcel security at the shipping facility. Deputies seized 11 more pounds of marijuana.
