Frat Guys Get Busted While Getting Blunted

A West Monroe Police Department Street Crimes Unit foot patrol of the West Monroe Convention Center parking lot during a fraternity party early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of three men on charges of marijuana possession and carrying a weapon in the presence of drugs.

Just after midnight on Sunday, officers approached a parked vehicle occupied by Donovan Hewitt of Pardis, Caliste M. Bab Jr. of New Orleans and Philip Duckett of Grambling. According to an arrest affadavit, an officer spotted and empty plastic bag and a cigar wrapper  with loose tobacco lying in the parking lot beside the front passenger door. The officer shined his light in the window and saw Duckett holding a “blunt,” a cigar packed with marijuana. The officer took the cigar and had all three men exit the vehicle.

After being read their Miranda rights, the suspects consented to a search of the vehicle, which turned up a loaded .22 caliber pistol in a bag on the back seat. Hewitt, the owner of the vehicle, told officers the gun belonged to him, and all three suspects admitted to smoking marijuana.

All three were booked into Ouachita Correctional Center with a bond of $750 each on charges of possession of marijuana and $500 each on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
