Homeowner finds grow op in rental home

A Chestermere residence has been sealed off by police after the owner of a rental property found more than 200 marijuana plants in the basement. The owner was conducting a scheduled inspection Sunday afternoon of the home in the West Lakeview Place section of Chestermere. The locks had been changed and no one was home.

When the owner looked inside, he and members of the Chestermere RCMP, who were asked by the owner to attend, found the marijuana plants, as well as significant construction.

It was immediately sealed off. Upon obtaining a search warrant, police searched the home Monday morning. There were more than 200 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $250,000. The residence was being transformed into a grow op, with an altered electrical setup and water system. The structural integrity of the home will be assessed by Alberta Health Services.
