Lake County sheriff’s detectives bust ‘elaborate’ marijuana grow house in Eustis

Two people have been arrested after Lake County sheriff’s detectives uncovered an “elaborate” marijuana-growing operation in a home and also in an outside shed, authorities said today.

The latest Sheriff’s Office grow-house bust, on Deerwoods Drive, resulted from a Crimeline tip on Tuesday, according to Sgt. Jim Vachon. During a search, detectives found about 50 pot plants worth roughly $50,000, about $4,000 worth of steroids, about 3 pounds of processed marijuana as well as multiple Xanax tablets. They also seized a .45-caliber handgun and about $5,000 cash.

Kyle A. Wilson, 30, and Lydia Dale Schmidt, 22, face charges of cultivation of marijuana and other narcotics counts as well as child abuse because two children were in the home, according to Vachon. Wilson and Schmidt were being held in the Lake County Jail.

Last week, the sheriff’s narcotics unit, acting on an anonymous complaint, busted a pot-growing operation on Wesley Road in Eustis. A search of the garage turned up 21 marijuana plants and a growing system that included fluorescent and LED lights, fans and plant chemicals. Book a 5 day cruise to the Caribbean for only $434. Jeffrey C. Meli, 41, was charged with cultivation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
