A North End man who won $500 from a lottery scratch ticket Thursday saw his luck run out only moments later. Joseph Taglieri, 31, was arrested on charges of property damage and marijuana possession after he jumped on the roof of a car to celebrate, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said. He pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court yesterday to charges of destruction of property and possession of more than an ounce of marijuana, the district attorney’s office said.
Neither Taglieri nor his lawyer could be reached for comment last night. According to the district attorney’s office, Boston police officers on routine patrol along Prince Street in the North End saw Taglieri scratch off a lottery ticket and scream “yes!’’ Elated over his luck, Taglieri allegedly jumped onto a nearby parked car, denting the roof of the 1994 Toyota Camry.
The officers arrested Taglieri, who told them he was carrying marijuana, according to the DA. Police confiscated a sandwich bag about three-quarters full of what they believed to be more than an ounce of the drug, the DA’s office said. He is due back in court Sept. 21. Taglieri was allowed to keep his winning lottery ticket.
