Troopers who stopped a Chevrolet pickup truck for a traffic violation at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-70 eastbound, just west of Ind. 9, found that it was hauling more than just musical equipment, according to a news release.
While speaking with the driver, Joseph AG Ground, 29, of Hollis, Maine, troopers became suspicious of criminal activity and searched the vehicle.
They found 185 pounds of packaged hydroponic marijuana that originated from California stuffed into several large speakers located among musical instruments inside a camper shell in the bed of the pickup truck, the report said. The load was bound for Maine.
Ground was arrested and is facing preliminary felony charges of dealing in marijuana and possession of marijuana.
Sgt. Todd Wix of the State Police said that the seized marijuana had an estimated street value of $900,000.
