A mother from Palo received a surprise when checking the candy her 4-year-old collected while trick-or-treating Wednesday. According to Ionia Department of Public Safety Deputy Director John Odette, the mom found a “small, cellophane baggie with a green leafy substance inside” once she returned home after trick-or-treating in the east Ionia area. She told officers she was unsure of where the drug originated.
Upon finding the bag, the woman called DPS and turned it in to DPS Officer Corey Bottum, who tested the substance and confirmed it was marijuana.
Odette said fingerprints are not able to be taken from the bag because of the number of hands that had touched it before it was turned in. The bag and its contents will be destroyed, he added. No other suspicious Halloween activity occurred Wednesday, Odette said.
