SANTEE – A 31-year-old Elloree man who allegedly tossed his marijuana into a washing machine to avoid arrest didn’t get away clean. The man was charged with simple possession of marijuana after a Santee police officer was dispatched to LS&D Laundromat on Flintlock Court just after 1 p.m. on Jan. 29 in reference to possible drug activity. The officer reported a “suspicious” man was talking to customers inside the business when a woman entered asking if anyone saw a cell phone she may have accidentally left there. The officer asked permission to frisk search each of those inside the Laundromat. During the pat-down, the officer said the suspicious man walked over to an empty washing machine and placed something inside of it. The cop then searched the man and removed a large amount of money and a cell phone from his front pocket. According to the incident report, the officer then looked into the empty washer and found 10 small, clear bags of marijuana. The weight of the packaged marijuana totaled 8.5 grams, the report said.
