Detroiter’s resoundingly passed Proposal M Tuesday, 11-6-2012, allowing possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana on private property for adults aged 21 and over.
Proposal M passes with 115,346 to 61,317 votes, a 65 to 35 percent win.
Ypsilanti voters also passed their marijuana initiative 5,635 to 1,914 amending the City Charter, “…such that the use and/or consumption of one ounce or less of usable marijuana by adults 21 years or older is the lowest priority of law enforcement personnel,” reported annarbor.com.
Maybe now the police can redirect some of their efforts to more serious crimes, and leave these people alone.
However, that does not indicate your employer will be lighting up any time soon with you. Drop a dirty ambush urine, and that job could be history.
As well, get pulled over by the police and they suspect drugged driving, Proposal M will not protect you from prosecution in Michigan.
The feds are a different story as well. They can still bash your door in, and confiscate that bag of weed as well as toss you in one of those high-rise county jails. They still seem to be caught up in Reefer Madness, however.
One step forward in the fight to legalize marijuana is progress.
Smoke em’ if ya got em’ Detroit, but be careful, there are still other legal consequences that can nip you among other things.
