KINGSVILLE – Officers with the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Department have shut down a major hydroponic marijuana growing operation in the city of Kingsville. Tuesday, members of the Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force were looking for a wanted suspect on an unrelated charge when they discovered the operation. They contacted the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Department who then raided the home along the 500 block of W. Avenue B in Kingsville after getting a warrant.
In the home, officers found about 3.5 Kilos of cocaine and 8.4 pounds of marijuana along with some paraphernalia needed to grow hydroponic marijuana. According to the sheriff’s department, the marijuana has a street value of about $80,000, they say the cocaine is worth about $350,000. Two men were arrested as a result of the investigation. Daniel Cano, 32, and Rene Olivarez, 44, have been charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine. The Kleberg County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the case and will be working with other law enforcement agencies in the area. Kleberg County Sheriff, Ed Mata says this is the second hydroponic marijuana growing system found in Kleberg county in the last two months.
