Medical Marijuana “Clinics” Issue Still Unresolved in Holland

A step was taken in the process of establishing medical marijuana in the Tulip City, but the issue is still far from resolved.

During last night’s meeting, the City Council approved a first reading of an ordinance that would, if enacted, allow caregivers to grow the weed on a medicinal basis for more than one client. It would establish such efforts as a “home occupation,” subject to city code regulations. However, before council casts a final vote on the matter on June 1st, some members want a provision dealing with having such “clinics” near schools and churches to be addressed.

This issue has confounded municipalities statewide since voters approved the growing of medical marijuana two and a half years ago. A number of communities have placed moratoriums on clinics or multi-patient efforts pending more guidance on the matter from lawmakers and policymakers in Lansing, which hasn’t been forthcoming.
