Medical Marijuana Dispensary Holds Blood Drive in San Jose

Two bloodmobiles were on site at a medical marijuana dispensary in downtown San Jose Saturday. A medical marijuana dispensary in the South Bay did something out of the norm by holding a blood drive Saturday.

Organizers said they want to prove to critics that pot dispensaries can be good neighbors. Two bloodmobiles were on site at Medmar Healing Center in downtown San Jose Saturday.

To boost donations, the dispensary offered free tacos and movie tickets, but donors say that is not why they participated.

“It’s to save lives more than anything–all the people that need blood, the cancer patients,” blood donor Brittnee Raitano said. “My grandma had cancer, my aunt had cancer, so it’s for the cause more than the privilege of me getting free tacos and free movie tickets.”

Organizers said the blood is not tested for THC before going in the blood bank, but it is tested for dangerous diseases.
