Medical marijuana dispensary to open in D.C.

Patients with certain medical conditions will soon be able to buy medical marijuana in the District. D.C. voters approved medical marijuana in 2010. Capital City Care, the city’s first licensed medical marijuana dispensary, will open in May. Only patients with specific illnesses can buy the marijuana. They can buy up to two ounces a month, which is subject to D.C. sales tax.

Besides raw marijuana, Capital City Care will also sell pot-infused cookies, brownies, candy and drinks – all made at its cultivation center in Northeast. The dispensary will sell also paraphernalia and offer counseling services.

The D.C. Department of Health can approve additional medical conditions. “Patients in D.C. have waited a long time for this, and now they can finally sign up to receive their medicine,” says David Guard, the general manager of Capital City Care. “People who want to participate should start talking to their doctors now.” The group will be located at 1334 N.
