Mexican nationals face prison, deportation

Two undocumented Mexican nationals pleaded guilty to charges of cultivation of marijuana and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony in Humboldt County Superior Court on Friday.  Miguel Don Juan Herandez, 29, and Jose Maria Valencia-Baez, 26, were arrested June 17 by deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at an outdoor garden site about three miles outside of Bridgeville, where deputies seized 5,495 marijuana plants.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies entered the site east of Bridgeville toward Showers Pass at 6:30 a.m. and located a campsite and a tent in the middle of a marijuana garden.  Deputies surrounded the tent and arrested the two men, who were sleeping with a loaded .22-caliber rifle, according to the sheriff’s office.  Herandez and Valencia-Baez will be deported to Mexico after serving two years and four months in state prison, according to a press release.
