Nine people were arrested in connection with a large-scale marijuana distribution ring that was operating in Saratoga Springs and throughout the Capital District. Police say the arrests were part of a months long investigation involving the Saratoga Springs Police Department and the Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force. They say a routein traffic stop in November 2010 led to the discovery of several pounds of marijuana in the vehicle. City Police executed a search warrant at a residence the same night on Lincoln Avenue and discovered information about the distribution ring.
Police say that several individuals were trafficking marijuana from Canada to the Capital Region. They estimate that 50 to 75 pounds of marijuana were distributed from Saratoga Springs each week, with similar amounts being distributed throughout other Capital Region locations including Albany, Troy and Clifton Park. Throughout the course of the investigation, police were able to intercept more than 50 pounds of marijuana headed for Saratoga Springs and the greater Capital District, seize tens of thousands of dollars in proceeds from drug trafficking, and arrested 9 individuals as part of the conspiracy.
32-year-old Aaron Vice and 29-year-old Matthew Dillon were identified as the top level of the organization. Both men were both charged in Federal Court with one count each of Possession with Intent to Distribute over 50 kilograms of Marijuana and Conspiracy to Distribute Over 50 Kilograms of Marijuana. 22-year-old Kyle MacDuff from Cohoes and 29-year old Charles Bushey of Troy were each charged with 1st Degree Criminal Possession of Marijuana and 4th Degree Conspiracy.
32-year-old Danielle Bevins and 57-year-old Danny Kelly were each charged with 1st Degree Criminal Sale of Marijuana, 1st Degree Criminal Possession of Marijuana and 4th Degree Conspiracy. 27-year-old John Snow was charged with two Class E Felonies: 1st degree Criminal Possession of Marijuana and 4th. 34-year-old Margaret Jacobs and 18-year-old Austin Thompson were both charged with 4th Degree Conspiracy. The arrests were made at various times over the past few months, with Bevins and Kelley surrendering themselves to police on Thursday. All of the cases will be handled by Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy’s office with the exception of Aaron Vice and Matthew Dillon, who are facing federal drug charges.
