GALESBURG, Ill.— Local and federal law enforcement officials say they’ve broken up a drug operation in western Illinois that helped distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana. WGIL-AM reports that the drug operation in Knox County had been going on for 17 years. U.S. Attorney James Lewis announced at the Knox County sheriff’s department Wednesday that a dozen people from the area were arrested a day earlier. They face federal charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana based on a grand jury indictment. All 12 were expected to make initial federal court appearances Wednesday afternoon. Each could face between 10 years and life in prison if convicted.
