Phoenix golf club maker takes a swing at medical pot shop

Phoenix golf club maker Ping Inc. is taking a swing at a proposed North Phoenix medical marijuana dispensary.

The Arizona Republic reports the dispute between Ping and its neighbors came to light last week at the first use-permit hearings for medical-marijuana locations citywide.

Ping legal representative Stephen Earl objected to an applicant who wants a medical marijuana dispensary in the 1900 block of West North Lane. Ping is located north of the proposed location near Peoria and 19th Avenues.

Earl told a Phoenix hearing officer that Ping is considering a nearly $200 million renovation of its headquarters. But may not do so if the neighborhood continues to decline and may even look at moving.

The use permit was granted despite Ping’s opposition. A city official says they will do what they can to keep Ping happy.
