The arrests were made after a multi-agency investigation, including the Washington County Area Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and several other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies that wrapped up Saturday. Those arrested were identified as Mexican nationals and are believed to be connected to a transnational drug-trafficking organization with operations based in Southern California and Nevada, according to a news release from Washington County.
The people arrested Saturday were booked into the Washington County Jail without incident. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said there may be additional people involved in the farming operation who are still at large. Drivers are encouraged to avoid picking up hitchhikers and to report any suspicious activity to police.
The marijuana farm was in Cove Wash near General Steam Road. It is believed to be related to at least three marijuana operations raided in 2010, the news release said. A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was used to take the marijuana from the site for disposal. Officials on Saturday had yet to determine the exact number of marijuana plants found at the site.
