Police chopper spots large cannabis crop

A POLICE helicopter crew has spotted a cannabis crop worth almost $600,000 in western NSW.  The Polair 2 chopper was flying over the Mendooran area when the crew noticed an alleged cannabis crop on a property below. A search of the Denmire Road property found 296 plants with an estimated potential street value of $592,000, a semi-automatic shotgun and other firearms.

Three men were arrested on the property and taken to Dubbo police station. Two men, aged 24 and 65, were charged with firearms offences. They were granted conditional bail and are to appear in Dubbo Local Court on January 11.A 69-year-old man was charged with cultivating a prohibited plant (greater than a commercial quantity).  He was refused bail and is to appear in Gilgandra Local Court tomorrow.
