Albuquerque police stumbled across 172 marijuana plants Wednesday morning after a nuisance complaint led them to a Northeast Heights home.
On Wednesday morning a call came into officers complaining that several vehicles parked on the street and yard of the home at 6916 Shale Avenue NE were causing a nuisance to the neighborhood.
Dispatch recognized the address as a home involved in previous suspected narcotics activity and informed responding officers.
Upon making contact with the home’s residents, Thomas Austin, 21, and Jospeh Jennerjahn, 19, officers observed marijuana in plain view.
Austin and Jennerjahn admitted to officers that they were in possession of marijuana and invited the officers in.
Officers declined the invitation and made the necessary steps to obtain an official search warrant to search the property.
Once a warrant was obtained officers along with detectives from Eastside Narcotics searched the residence and found 172 marijuana plants and a quarter pound of dried marijuana ready for sale.
Investigators estimate the marijuana recovered had a street value of well over $100,000.
Austin and Jennerjahn were both booked for distribution of marijuana.
