Police find huge cannabis factory

A MASSIVE haul of cannabis was seized by police yesterday in a crackdown on what is thought to be a multi-million-pound crime gang.

Officers uncovered the cannabis factory containing around 1,500 plants when they raided a factory on the Dinas Industrial Estate in Williamstown, Tonypandy, after a tip-off by a member of the public.

The plants, which had an estimated street value of £1m, were spread over 10,000 square feet of the facility’s floor.

Police said the plants, which will now be destroyed, were young, so the operation was probably stopped before it cultivated any cannabis to sell.

Inspector Mike Jones said: “The sophistication of this operation – the sheer size of it – is quiet startling.”

Three men were last night being questioned by police about the find.
