Police intercept 68 pounds of marijuana at Kansas City bus station

Authorities arrested a 57-year-old Florida woman at the Greyhound bus station in Kansas City this morning after police discovered 68 pounds of marijuana in her luggage. Jackson County prosecutors charged Veronica C. Johnson of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Police estimated that the drugs would be worth about $200,000 on the street.

A police dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs in two suitcases on a bus that originated in Los Angeles. When police attempted to question Johnson about the bags she became “extremely nervous and shaking uncontrollably,” according to a probable cause statement filed to support the charge. After obtaining a search warrant, officers found 19 bundles wrapped in cellophane in one bag and 22 bundles in the other, according to the court statement.
