Pregnant Sheffield woman harvested cannabis plants

A PREGNANT Sheffield woman acted as a harvester for a cannabis-producing operation, a court heard. Asiya Rahman, 25, was caught when police swooped on a Lowedges home earlier this year and found four cannabis plants in the toilet, as well as several hanging from a ceiling in the living room. Sheffield Crown Court heard Rahman was found wearing rubber gloves and carrying a knife. When asked what she was doing, she told officers: ”I have been doing this to make a bit of money – I’ve never done anything like this before.” She said she had been attending to the plants for the occupier of the house, with whom she was in a relationship with at the time. Michael Tooley, prosecuting, said: “The value of the cannabis in the living room was around £6,500 if broken down and sold into one ounce deals.

“The four cannabis plants in the lavatory were around six to seven weeks off maturity and with the appropriate regimes would have been able to produce in the region of 100 grams per plant. “It was clearly a cultivation set-up involving 10 plants, yielding around 100 grams each. The defendant said she came to cut plants at harvest time, as it was a multi-stage production. “As far as the operation was concerned she performed a lesser role.” The court heard Rahman was a woman of previous good character and suffered from depression. Rahman, of Jordanthorpe, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to two counts of producing a Class B drug. She was sentenced to a 12-month community order with an activity requirement. Judge Graham Hyland QC said: “It is always sad to see a woman like you in the dock. This is a serious offence but due to the fact you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and in view of your basis of plea, it is not necessary for me to deprive you of your liberty.”
