Fable 3 Review

Fable 3 is a direct sequel of Fable 2. The storyline takes place 50 years after the end of Fable. 2. You play the son or daughter of the hero king from the previous game. This story pits you against your tyrannical ruler of a brother and you must start a revolution against him. You must do great deeds to win over the hearts of the people of the kingdom in order to gain followers for your revolution. Then you defeat your brother in a cut-scene and congrats you are now king!!! … or queen!!! But that’s just part of the story. You learn a great threat is looming over you’re kingdom and now must amass a great wealth to defend the kingdom, but how you do so is what will determine whether you are a kind ruler or a ruthless one.

Upon first sight the graphics in fable 3 seemed umm…let’s just saying lacking. But once I got out in the world and started exploring I could see just how beautiful the scenery looked. Fable was never about super realistic either, but being REALLY fun to play and that it is.

The combat system is pretty much exactly like it was in Fable 2 with each weapon having its own button to mash(or hold for flourish). There was a new addition though. You now have the ability to perform super slow-mo finishing attacks on you’re enemies(it is soooo much fun to flip over somebody and stab them in the back. Something really cool Lion Head did with the weapons in this game is give them the ability to change in appearence as you lvl up your melee and range power. They mentioned before the release that they would change as you lvl them up and would change uniquely based on how you play. Now unfortunately the only ones that change uniquely are the begining weapons, all the others looks the same everytime you lvl them up nomatter how you play. Now with magic in Fable 3 you no longer have the ability to just learn how to use the magic inside you. You have to wear a gauntlet the supposedly wields your magic for you. At first I thought this was a bad idea, but then i saw this was a really good excuse as to why you can now learn to duel wield your spells. My favorite combos are fireball/shock and fireball/vortex(yes I like fire, what of it?).

I love what Lion Head did with the map in this game. The ability to purchase and maintain your property straight from your map is the niftiest tool I’ve had for a video game in a long time. The only thing that bothers me about it is the map looks like a shoebox diarama of the town and without some details you can get a little lost.

The one big complaint I have about Fable 3 is that just like its predecesor it has a painfully anti-climactic ending. Overall I give Fable 3 four and a half scull crushing flourishes out of five.
