Saline teenagers accused of robbing marijuana dealer will be in court next week

The 2 Saline teenagers charged with armed robbery for taking an ounce of marijuana from another teenager will be in court next week for preliminary exams.

Emily Beach, 15, and James Brewer, 16, both face charges related to the July 27 incident, when police say that Beach set up a drug deal and Brewer and 3 other men robbed the man at gunpoint. Police say that Brewer struck the victim with the gun before leaving the scene.

The 2 teenagers will be back in court Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Washtenaw County 14A District Court. They are co-defendants in the case.

Beach faces 2 counts of armed robbery for her role in the incident. Brewer faces 2 counts of armed robbery and 1 count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Washtenaw County prosecutors are charging the teenagers as adults.

If convicted, both Brewer and Beach could face up to life in prison.

According to police, Beach set up a drug deal with a teenager she knew to be a dealer. The dealer went outside with his girlfriend, who was taking out the trash, to meet Beach when 4 people jumped him and 1 person pointed a gun at him.

Police say Brewer had the gun and took the marijuana from him before striking him in the head and leaving the area.

Saline police Det. Don Lupi said this month that there are no plans to charge the dealer with possession of marijuana because of the ongoing case against Beach and Brewer.
