San Jose medical marijuana dispensary MedMar Healing Center, along with other San Jose cannabis collectives, collected over 8,500 lbs. of much-needed food for the hungry over the holiday season. MedMar Healing Center and other medical marijuana collectives in the San Jose Bay Area partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to bring nutritious meals to the hungry. MedMar put out food barrels in the lobby, and urged members to give generously to those in need. The San Jose marijuana dispensary gave members a $1 discount for every can of food brought in during the food drive. Cash donations were also accepted and passed along to Second Harvest.
“Our members showed overwhelming support for the food drive,” says Doug Chloupek, founder of MedMar. “The outpouring of love and support for the community was incredible.” Second Harvest Food Bank oversaw the collection and distribution of the food. Second Harvest serves 10% of the people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties-over 240,000 people each month-and distributes over 45 million pounds of food per year. Most of the people served by the food bank are local seniors and families with dependent children. As a nonprofit medical cannabis provider, MedMar is dedicated to supporting the San Jose community. Whether it’s providing compassionate care services or participating in charitable events such as the recent holiday food drive, MedMar is dedicating to improving the lives of local residents.
