BEKAA, Lebanon: Lebanese police and army soldiers eradicating fields of marijuana came under fire Monday, security sources said. No casualties were reported. The sources, who spoke to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the gunfire came from two different directions. The joint security force, drawn from the Internal Security Forces and the Lebanese Army and working upon instructions from the Central Office for Drug Control, began destroying fields of cannabis Monday morning. About 30 bulldozers and tractors took part in the government crackdown, which kicked off at 8 a.m. Monday.
