State police seize 50 pounds of marijuana in New Haven

NEW HAVEN – State police seized 50 pounds of marijuana Tuesday and arrested a city man on multiple drug charges related to the stash.

Detectives with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force served a search warrant at 355 Norton St. at about noon and found 50 pounds of marijuana, processed and packaged for street sale, according to a news release. The detectives also seized a stolen firearm, the release said.

Arrested was Jason Cox, 37, of 355 Norton St., on charges of possession of more than one kilogram of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession or marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school, and possession of a stolen firearm. Police said the package of marijuana was scheduled to be delivered to Cox and when he took possession of the package, police moved in and arrested him.

Cox was taken into custody without incident and brought to the Union Avenue detention center where he was being held in lieu of undisclosed bail to appear in court today .

The arrest and drug seizure was the result of an extensive criminal investigation by state police narcotics detectives. New Haven police assisted with the arrest.
