Supreme Court Hears Medical Marijuana Case

On Thursday, the Oregon Supreme Court heard an hour of arguments in the case of Sheriff Mike Winters v. Cynthia Willis.

Willis is from Gold Hill.  In 2008, she was denied a concealed handgun license because she is a medical marijuana cardholder.

Sheriff Winters said giving her the license would violate federal law that prohibits drug users from legally owning guns.

Willis believes the outcome of the hearing will be positive after previous courts have ruled in her favor.

Sheriff Winters did not attend the hearing and turned down Newswatch 12’s request for comment.
