Troopers seize 75 lbs of suspected marijuana hidden in gas tank

Indiana State Police troopers today found 80 packages of suspected marijuana submerged inside a gasoline tank of a mini-van stopped for a traffic violation on eastbound I-70 in Indianapolis.

Senior Trooper Brad Smith stopped a 1998 Oldsmobile minivan for a traffic violation before noon, according to an ISP news release.

While speaking with the driver, Edgar Cornejo, 38, of McAllen, Texas, Smith noticed “indicators consistent with criminal activity,” according to the press release. He called in Senior Trooper Greg Magee and his K-9 partner.

The 75 pounds of packaged substance believed to be marijuana had been destined for Toledo, Ohio, the news release said.

Cornejo was arrested and taken to the Marion County Processing Center on preliminary felony charges of dealing in marijuana and possession of marijuana, the release said.
