Two Arrested for Marijuana Possession over Holiday Weekend

Two separate traffic stops by Nebraska State Patrol troopers on Interstate 80 over the weekend led to the seizure of 88 pounds of marijuana.

Just before 6:30 p.m. last Tuesday, a trooper stopped John Ibarra, 32, Willits, Calif., for speeding on I-80 near Kearney. A probable cause search of the vehicle led police to 63 pounds of marijuana, located in the bed of the pickup.

Ibarra was arrested and taken to the Buffalo County Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Robert Penn Jr., 39, of Omaha, was arrested Sunday after police found 25 pounds of marijuana in a plastic tote in the truck of his vehicle following a traffic stop. Penn was pulled over for following too closely on I-80 in Hall County. An NSP canine alerted the officer of the odor of drugs coming from rear of the vehicle.

Penn was lodged in the Hall County Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
