Two medical marijuana dispensaries were vandalized early Monday morning when rocks were thrown at the buildings’ windows. Around 3:30 a.m. someone threw rocks at the front window of Granny Purps, 2649 41st Ave., sheriff’s deputy April Skalland said. However, the dispensary was equipped with sturdy safety glass, and even though the alarm was triggered, the glass did not break.
About 20 minutes later vandals broke a window with rocks at Santa Cruz Mountain Naturals, 9077 Soquel Drive, Skalland said. The alarm at the Aptos dispensary went off, and the vandals fled without taking anything. Skalland said that both dispensaries have video surveillance systems and investigators are working on getting the footage.
This is the second time in a little over a month that area pot dispensaries have been vandalized. In the early morning of June 3, Granny Purps and Herbal Cruz, 1001 41st Ave., were burglarized when masked men smashed glass doors at both dispensaries and grabbed what was readily accessible before fleeing.
Skalland said investigators are looking into connections and patterns between the incidents.
